“I am inspired by the beauty of nature and the way Claude Monet captures the effects of light playing on water using exquisite combinations of colours.

At present I am working in porcelain. I love the refinement and the way it enhances the colours and clarity of the glazes, giving them life. Shapes are mainly wide bowls and narrow-necked bottles as they provide good surfaces on which to display the glazes.

Some of the bowls are covered in a crackled glaze, oxides are applied to the rim and they tend to flow downwards during the firing .

Blue and turquoise come about by adding copper oxide to a basic barium glaze. I then decorate with bands of copper oxide in varying thicknesses to produce blue and metallic effects.

Other effects are created by applying various layers of glazes and allowing chemical reactions to take over in the kiln.”
