John was born in Zimbabwe but has been living for the last thirty years or so in South Africa. First he lived amongst the majestic mountains of the Western Cape and then later along the beautifully rugged Wild Coast of the Eastern Cape. Unsurprisingly, both these areas are the inspiration for his paintings.
A self-taught artist, John tends to ignore the rules to a point where his style has evolved towards the abstract. He exaggerates colours and shapes, often leaving large areas of the canvas bare to emphasise the space that is Africa.
“I hope you enjoy my work as much as I have loved the landscapes I have been fortunate to stand before.”
John now lives in Surrey, and is enjoying exploring a new colour palette, such as English greens. But his heart, and therefore his art, often returns to Africa.
