Born in Mutare, Zimbabwe, Val Myburgh is a self-taught artist and she worked for many years as a medical illustrator, first at Wits University in Johannesburg, and then at the University of Cape Town.
During the early 2000s Val started freelancing, and now she works for numerous publishing houses doing mainly educational illustrations, although she is happy to tackle any type of illustration that comes her way. For this she usually works digitally in Photoshop and Illustrator.
When the publishing pressure is off and she has the time, she escapes into all sorts of fantasy, whimsical drawings and paintings.
In her words; “Officially I’m an illustrator. Unofficially I fiddle with everything I possibly can!”
Val now lives in the picturesque Overberg village of Stanford in the Western Cape.
