Yola Quinn

Award winning artist Yola Quinn creates paintings that capture a glimpse of the intangible and the imperceptible. Utilising traditional old masters techniques of glazing in oils, by applying layers of fine washes of paint Yola blurs realism with abstraction to create ethereal and evocative dream like images. Inspiration is continually drawn from life experience and the beauty of the natural world. Yola was born in KwaZulu-Natal, and grew up in an artistic family. Her childhood was spent mostly out in nature which established a deep reverence for the wilderness, and this continues to inform her life and work to present day. After completing a Fine Art Diploma at the Natal Technikon and achieving distinctions in painting and ceramics, Yola went on to live and paint professionally in Natal, UK and Cape Town.

Yola has exhibited both locally and internationally, including solo exhibitions in the UK and Cape Town . In 2018 her works exhibited at the a Winter Life exhibition in Cape Town won the publics choice award as well as being selected as one of the winning artists of the show and Yola is now permanently represented by the Studio Art Gallery, Simons Town. 2019 saw a successful Solo Exhibition in Cape Town and exhibiting at the Eco Awards to raise awareness for conservation efforts. Yola spent two years living in Maun, Botswana where she was able to spend time in pristine wilderness areas. This allowed in depth painting studies of birds and animals from her direct experience. “The Okavango Delta offers a window to another world, one that is vanishing and changing rapidly; to capture this world through my work is both a great privilege and joy.” Yola presently resides and paints from her studio in Hoedspruit.
