framed original giraffe oil painting, 355 x 355 mm, by award-winning Kenyan artist Karen Laurence-Rowe
One of my most memorable times in Amboseli National Park was at the end of the rainy season. Everything was parched dry and the arid lake bed which was in the next few weeks was to become a shallow lake was still a desert. Out of the shimmering mirage a group of the giraffe emerged and in their wake the sky darkened and the wind whipped into a frenzy. The last vestiges of sun light sharply contrasted with the dramatic darkening sky creating a perfect backdrop to these special gentle giants.
