Description
A thought-provoking portrayal of a mackerel by conservation artist Martin Aveling who won the Environmental Artivism category at the prestigious David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year Awards (WAY) in London in 2024. Martin has deliberately isolated this schooling species, to highlight overfishing. And he has studded the frame with actual nurdles – the polluting pellets of plastic, hazardous to fish and found abundantly in our oceans. It is a powerful image, beautifully drawn in pastel pencils, and it locks in to Martin’s beliefs as an artist. This painting was Highly Commended at WAY in 2021.
