Description
“Whilst sitting quietly on a veranda in my hometown of Bulawayo, I became fascinated by the interaction between a couple of sunbirds and several bees, all drawn to the nectar of the same plant.
I watched as they moved around one another, occasionally acknowledging each other’s presence, but never really competing. There seemed to be an instinctive understanding that there was enough to share. They would hover, move aside, return, and then carry on. A simple, fleeting example of nature finding its own balance.
Hover captures one of these brief moments: a sunbird suspended mid-motion, a bee hovering nearby, both focused on the same goal: sustenance and survival.
I wanted to draw attention to this small interaction by removing the surrounding landscape and leaving the birds and bees against a sea of white. In doing so, the moment becomes less about the wider scene and more about the relationship between these two very different creatures.
We often overlook moments like this because they happen so quickly. Through Hover, I wanted to pause one of them, to celebrate the quiet beauty of an everyday encounter in nature and the delicate balance that exists within it.”
