Description
“This tusk is made from very special paper produced in Kenya by a wildlife conservationist Solomon Gitau. The paper was a gift to a relative of mine and this tusk is dedicated to her memory (Margery Barnes). The different shades and textures in the papers show the different vegetations that elephants eat, and I have deliberately arranged the paper in sections resembling a map of small holdings. It symbolises the conflict that surrounds between elephants and humans when the land is conflicted between agriculture and wildlife. The gold leaf highlights the financial and ecological losses surrounding this situation.”
