All the work for our forthcoming “Richly Wrapped” exhibition is now in and the exciting task of unwrapping is in full flow. It always feels slightly like Christmas-come-early, as boxes with menacing red warnings of ‘Fragile’ and ‘Handle with Care’ are stripped of their thick shiny brown tape. Copious quantities of scrunched African newsheets pile high, whilst white polysterene chips escape (no matter how much care is taken) to float around the garden in a gentle snow flurry. Endless seams of clear sticky tape are carefully peeled off bloated bundles of bubblewrap, which are in turn painstakingly unwound to reveal more layers of tissue; and then finally, the hidden gem of a painting or ceramic pot, a long way from home and the original easel or kiln of its’ birth. Obviously all work has to be unwrapped to check it for quality and perfection before it is cleaned, photographed, priced and presented to you “Richly Wrapped” from 4th October.
