Description
“I have always been drawn to the unique beauty and character of the African wild dog. There is something incredibly striking about them, their oversized ears, expressive faces and individually patterned coats give each animal a character entirely of its own.
With this piece, I wanted to celebrate that individuality and capture the quiet intensity of the wild dog. I chose to focus closely on the face and remove everything unnecessary from the composition, allowing the animal’s expression, markings and textures to become the sole focus.
Working in black and white allowed me to explore the contrasts within the wild dog’s coat while drawing attention to the details that make this species so distinctive. I was particularly inspired by the watchfulness in its eyes and the wonderful balance between strength, curiosity and vulnerability.
For me, this portrait is simply a celebration of an extraordinary African animal, one whose unconventional beauty and unmistakable character I find endlessly inspiring.”
