The town of Stellenbosch is synonymous with wine, students and picturesque Cape Dutch architecture. But there are some quirky, individual businesses nestled in its side streets and one of these is Mia Melange. In a delightful happy environment, their homeware products are designed and created on the premises. Made from 100% cotton which is a renewable source of fibre, their baskets, placemats and planters are stitched by local women, previously unemployed, and trained in-house. The cotton is grown by South African farmers, the yarn is spun by local mills and the rope is braided in Cape Town. With a keen eye for clean design and effective functionality, the end products are contemporary and stylish. It is an environmentally conscious company and another example of clever South African design and hand-crafted attention to detail. Because we like to mix functional work with our fine art, here at our Fillingdon gallery in Buckinghamshire we have stocked baskets from Mia Melange since my visit to them last year. We currently have 15 left in varying colours and shapes and there is 30% off on our online sale. If you are sorting and tidying your homes in this lock-down, these are the perfect solution for keeping things neat but looking good. Contact us for details on [email protected]
