Description
“I remember one particularly special morning in my favourite game reserve, Hwange National Park. As we rounded a bend in the track, we were suddenly greeted by a sight that none of us had expected. Standing alone in the middle of the road was a wild dog, completely alert and watching its surroundings.
Its distinctive markings made it instantly recognisable, and the excitement in the vehicle was immediate. For those few moments, we had this remarkable animal entirely to ourselves. Then, as if on cue, the rest of the pack appeared, joining the first dog before disappearing into the bush.
We followed their movements as they travelled through the woodland, watching them work together as they hunted. It was fascinating to see the energy and cooperation within the pack, but it was that very first moment that stayed with me most. The sight of a single wild dog standing alert in the road, completely at home in its environment, took my breath away.
Leader of the Pack is a celebration of that encounter and of one of Africa’s most distinctive and fascinating predators. I wanted to capture the presence of that first wild dog, before the rest of the pack arrived, and preserve the sense of anticipation and excitement of seeing these remarkable animals in the wild.”
