It appeals to my simple sense of humour that I first met Catherine Brennon at her home in the Underberg and then she moved to the Overberg! In the scenic surrounds of Himeville at the foot of the Southern Drakensberg in Kwa-Zulu Natal, Catherine ran the Underberg Studio to showcase her ceramics and work by other prominent South African potters. Now she and her husband, photographer Lawrance Brennon, live in the popular seaside town of Hermanus in the Overberg farming district of the Cape Province, and they run the Overberg Studio from their beautiful home http://www.overbergstudio.co.za/ Visitors are treated to a drink on their roof terrace, with views in front out across to the beach and ocean, and then directly behind them, the majesty of magnificent mountains. It really is nature on their doorstep, which may be why both Catherine and Lawrance reflect the glory of the natural world around them in their work. As well as bowls, plaques, mugs and jugs, Catherine is known for her quirky and imaginative Dreamboxes which can be purely ornamental or contain any treasures and dreams which one may hold dear.
