Description
“There are long queues waiting outside the Scrap Yards here in South Africa. People from miles around arrive with loads of metal they have collected in the veld to exchange for cash. Rusty car doors, farm implements, old kettles and buckets of bolts, nuts and nails. In the Transkei there are individual piles of scrap metal waiting for collection all along the roadside for miles. Trucks arrive, each pile is weighed and the collector is paid accordingly.”
A new detailed wood and mixed media sculpture bust by master carver Robyn Gordon who looks to history, heritage and her soul for inspiration, before including her beach walk finds to tell each story.
