Lucy d’Auvergne has worked with animals for over 30 years – from conservation to film, field and art – she doesn’t just sculpt what she sees, she sculpts what she feels. Her extensive field work with species ranging from wild chimpanzees to Eurasian otters has shaped a profound empathy for non-human animals and their fragility within the modern world. Through sculpture, she translates life experience into tangible, lasting forms, alive with movement, light, and soul.
Every sculpture begins with quiet observation and exhaustive research: time spent watching how a creature moves, breathes, and carries itself in the world. Her process is patient and deeply personal. From the first curve of clay to her signature hand-patinated finish, Lucy builds tone and warmth layer by layer – creating textured surfaces and organic tones evocative of fur, making each piece as unique as the animals that inspire her.
“Through sculpture, I seek to explore the essence of an animal – that spark of individuality and motivation that makes each being unique.”
Lucy creates limited edition pieces for galleries and exhibitions, as well as bespoke private commissions. In 2025 she was a finalist in the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year and the recipient of three sculpture awards:
The Wildlife Art Society International’s (TWASI) Sculpture/3D Award
The Chelsea Art Society’s Slaski Sculpture Award
The Southwest Academy of Fine Arts Sculpture Award
