180 x 120 x 80 mm

Michael Gwaravaza was born in Wedza, in the east of Zimbabwe in 2000. He was surrounded by stone carving from young age, mainly through his father, Mr John Gwaravaza. John is a master sculptor of ‘fine art’, the very realistic animal and head carvings.
In 2018, Michael became a full-time art apprentice training under the guidance of his father and elder brothers. His brothers Timothy and Tendai mentored, supported and supervised his creative development.
Michael completed this informal sculpture training in 2020. Following that, he worked alongside his brothers.
His main art philosophy is to help celebrate the inherent Shona values, culture and traditions through stone sculpture.
Michael lives and works in the city of Chitungwiza, not far from Harare. His favourite pastime is fishing, just like his father, which he loves to do when he visits his kumusha (family rural area) in Wedza.
He is also a devout Christian and spends plenty of time at church.
