Jean Beckley

Jean Beckley began tuition in ceramics relatively late in life. Her teacher, the late Julia Fraser (a good friend and talented ceramicist) had trained with John Edwards. It was she who ‘fired’ Jean’s love for the feel of clay, thus satisfying her creative instincts. These are part and parcel of her career as a dancer, teacher and choreographer.

Jean joined Digby Hoets’ studio in the mid-1980s. Her work follows the ‘Anglo-Oriental’ tradition and has always been of a classical nature.

Jean lives in Johannesburg and has exhibited on Regional, National and Biennial exhibitions promoted by Ceramics South Africa.
