Everett Duarte is a contemporary South African artist whose paintings celebrate colour, life and spirit in an organic fashion. His style is bold strokes in bright colours on large canvases; creating an effect which is both modern and dramatic.
Bursting, flowing, decomposing and re-emerging his forms appear in a constant state of transition. The visual language he creates on his canvas is both powerful and engaging. Africa’s mighty wildlife lends itself to such treatment and Everett’s observation of his subject is accurate but appealingly loose and not over detailed. With this fluid execution he intertwines a story in each painting about the animals and their natural course of existence.
Everett Paul Duarte was born in 1980 in Tzaneen, South Africa. From 1999 to 2002 he studied Graphic Design at the Durban Technikon. He worked as a freelance graphic designer in Johannesburg for a year before teaching art at Evangel School in Kwa-Zulu Natal for 3 years.
In 2006 he attended the University of Fine Arts in Dresden and he has worked as a freelance artist since. Married to fellow artist Frances Schandera-Duarte, Everett and his wife split their time between his native South Africa and her homeland of Germany.
